Northern Cod

The common North Atlantic salt-water fish (Gadus morhua), since the sixteenth century the principal object of the commercial fishery in Newfoundland, where the common synonym is "fish". The 1992 Moratorium on Northern Cod brought an end to the dominance of the codfish as Newfoundland's principal commercial fishery.
